You don't need another Leadership tip or technique if you follow this Parenting advice

By Tony Piper, January 23, 2023

In many ways, Parenting is just another kind of Leadership (or is it the other way around?)

There are lots of books about Parenting, and many of them are crammed with tips and techniques.

But if you've ever tried to use them (or been on the receiving end of them), you'll know that success is far from guaranteed.

In his book "**Parenting from the Heart**", Jack Pransky sums it up nicely.

Children respond better when we deal with them from responsive and secure frame of mind. That's because they tune into our feeling.

If we are in a lousy mood, it's hard to remember the techniques. And even if we did, they wouldn't work very well because the bad feeling overrides the technique.

If we're in a good mood, that feeling inevitably has a positive impact on our children. And the chances are, we wouldn't need to use techniques in the first place.

And so it is at with all humans, at work, at home or anywhere else.

How we show up as leaders will have an impact on the people around us.

No amount of Leadership tips and techniques will help if you're in a lousy mood.

If you're in a calm, responsive and secure frame of mind your team (and everyone else around you) will respond to that. Consequently, you might not need many tips and techniques in the first place.

If you're open to reflection, why not spend some time exploring the connection between your mood and your and others' behaviour. You might see something new.
